Dinner at my apartment.
An evening left blank because she needed one and had said so without apology.
Dating her was not simply the friendship with kissing added. We discovered differences we had previously been able to leave at separate apartment doors. She wanted to talk through an argument immediately; I sometimes needed half an hour to understand why I was upset.
The first time that happened, I asked for the half hour.
She looked at me carefully.
“Are you coming back to the conversation?”
“Yes. At eight.”
She nodded.
